After writing about the age rule that we have in our home, I was thinking about the way that other foster families set boundaries for the children that they can take into their homes. I wanted to talk about how I feel about taking in children based on age, when the ages of other children in the home is not a factor for families.

I'm not sure if I've ever talked about the age rule that we have in our house, so I thought it might be a good topic to cover. In every foster home, it is possible to tell DSS exactly which children can be placed in the home. For example, you may only have room for a boy in the home, or you may not be able to take in any infants. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I wanted to share this amazing milestone tonight, because it's definitely something that I'm proud of... there's only 100 days until graduation!! I can't believe it! It seems like only yesterday that I was graduating from high school and then moving to college for the first time. My college experience has been absolutely nothing like I had thought it would be, and I've definitely had my ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade the past four years for anything. They've made me who I am today, and I'm happy with the path that I'm on. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, I unfortunately had to take a sick day. I had a fever last night, and couldn't risk getting all of the children sick. On the bright side, I do feel a lot better tonight than I did last night. Though I still can't breathe through my nose, the fever is gone, and I'm feeling much more like myself. Thank goodness! So tonight, I was catching up on one of my absolute favorite television shows, Once Upon A Time, and it got me thinking about foster children. I'm a few weeks behind (even though the show has been on winter hiatus since the end of December, I'm pretty sure) and the plot line strongly revolves around Elsa and Anna, from the Disney movie Frozen. I have used so many tissues today that I think I'll be finishing this box all by myself. Having a sore throat stinks. Losing your voice the day you're supposed to be teaching your first lesson is awful. But having a stuffed-up, then runny, then stuffed-up, then runny nose is definitely the worst part of getting a cold. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today has really just been awful. It's only 8:30pm and I'm sitting in bed, about to fall asleep as soon as I finish this post. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Well, we finally got that snow day that we were promised last week! Took long enough for it to get here... but it was certainly worth the wait! Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Happy February, and Happy Superbowl Sunday! Has anyone else been cooking finger foods for the past 3 hours? There's only 10 minutes until kickoff! This morning, I was looking through some pictures on my phone, and I found one that made me laugh. I wanted to share it here for two reasons. One, I thought other people might get a laugh as well. Two, I wanted to discuss it in reference to foster care. |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
