Life as a Writer, Disney World Cast Member, and
Big Sister through Foster Care & Adoption
Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Tonight's post is a lesson dedicated to all of the older siblings out there. Whether you're the oldest child in your family, or you're somewhere in the middle, I'm talking to you if you have younger siblings. Specifically, I'm talking about if you have younger siblings the same gender as you.

Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Let's imagine a scenario for a moment. You have four children at home, a mix of biological and adopted kids. You also have a pair of foster children in your care, a brother/sister duo. The kids range in age from eighteen months to ten years old. You live in a small home with just enough room for the six kids to sleep comfortably at night. You wouldn't change it for the world, but it can definitely get crazy with a family of eight. Now you get a phone call from C.P.S. asking if you can take an infant who was just removed from her home. What do you say? Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Happy anniversary to Taylor Talks! On July 29, 2014, I started on this crazy adventure that I called a blog. I had no idea how often I would post, I had no idea if I gain any interest in what I was writing about, and I had no idea that I would be sitting down at the computer an entire year later, celebrating a successful year of blogging. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Guess where I'm blogging from? My laptop! We finally got internet, TV, and phone hooked up! It feels so good to type on an actual keyboard again and see an entire website on a full screen. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
With all of the home movies my mom and I have been watching over the past few nights, I've been realizing a lot about my life. So much has changed over the course of my life, especially over the time in which I've had siblings come and go from my home. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
We're still watching home movies at our house, which is kind of a blessing in disguise. It's annoying that this is the only nighttime entertainment we have, since we still don't have cable, but it has really been so nice to relive all these old memories. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
We have Internet! Ha ha ha no, we don't. Twice now something has gotten screwed up and we still have not gotten TV, Internet, or phone hooked up. Now we're told that Tuesday everything will be set up, so fingers are crossed that it pulls through this time. In the meantime, I still have Facebook access from my iPad, and today I saw a post that sparked an idea for today's blog post. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Only one more day until we get internet! Thank goodness! But in the meantime, at least we're getting a lot accomplished and spending time together as a family. We put on more home movies tonight (we actually just watched a movie of one-year-old me watching a movie of six-month-old me, which was pretty funny). Then today, we got to use our new pool for the first time! Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I feel like the house is really starting to come together now! My parents' new bedroom furniture was delivered today, so all of the bedrooms are looking more complete. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Bad news... I have ELEVEN bug bites on my legs! I'm going crazy! I'm about ready to hire someone to scratch my legs all day. I imagine that this is what chicken pox feels like. Now for some more bad news... Someone from the company screwed up, and now we won't get TV, phone, or Internet until Saturday. We waited all day for someone to come, and then I checked my mom's email to find a number to call when no one showed up. Turns out the email said someone was coming next Monday. Long story short, I called and complained and now we got bumped up to Saturday. But still; that's another two and a half days without everything. I want to use my laptop for blogging again! |
My family has been doing foster care since I was three years old. I'm the only biological child in my family, though I now have five permanent siblings. Having nineteen siblings over the course of my lifetime has been an incredible experience, and I'm hoping that by sharing some of the ups and downs of being the only bio kid in a foster family, other foster families or people looking into doing foster care will be able to learn a bit of what life can be like. I also like to share what life is like on my journey to becoming a published author, as well as where my schooling and career choice are taking me.
