This week, I’ve been staying with my former roommate for a mini-vacation. Tonight, we decided we would take a drive and go to the movies. We’re going to see the new movie, “If I Stay,” based on the book of the same name by Gayle Forman. I remember reading the book about a month after I turned sixteen. I had taken my permit test on my birthday, and had only been driving for that short amount of time before I read this incredible book about a family impacted by a car accident. It really shook me.

Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
As you can imagine, the arrival of a new child is a very big deal in any family. Whether a baby is born into the family or adopted, or they arrive in the family when they are a little older, it is always exciting to meet a new family member. For all of the years that my family has been doing foster care, I have always been home when I have gotten a new little brother or sister. From the phone call asking if we can take in a child, to the time of their arrival, I have always been present for the newest addition to the family. That is, until this year. As you have probably noticed by now, family is one of the most important parts of my life. Whether it was just me and my parents, or a family of nine, I have always been very close to my whole family and can’t go a day without talking to them. When I was preparing to go to college (and I can’t believe that it was three years ago already!), I wasn’t one of those kids who longs to go to a college on the opposite side of the country. I thought about going to a community college for a long time, where I could live at home and be with everyone. Eventually, my parents and friends convinced me that I would be happy if I went away to a college, even if I didn’t go very far. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
With such a big family, you can imagine that it’s hard to find alone time with any one member of the family. My mom and I have always been extremely close, but having a conversation during the day is almost impossible. Between cries of “Mommy!” and “Hey that was my toy!” and “She pushed me!” there are interruptions every five seconds. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I just wrote about how difficult our very first “good bye” was, and I thought I should talk a little bit more about when we have to see a child leave our home. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
The other day, I wrote about my only memory of the day I became a big sister for the first time. Today, I thought I would talk about the part that I do remember; the children who made me a big sister. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
One of the most important people in my life was my grandpa. He died when I was five years old, but his influence still guides me to this day. He was an incredible man, who absolutely lived each day to the fullest. My mom often says that my cousins and I were his pride and joy. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, I wanted to write about the very beginning, back when I was three years old and I became a big sister for the very first time. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
If any of my blog readers follow me on Twitter (@TayTayK02), then you’ve probably seen the paragraph that I have at the top of my page. I thought I would share that here tonight, and explain a little about it. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Tonight I thought I would talk about why we started doing foster care seventeen years ago… |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
