This morning I spent quite a few hours in two meetings, back to back, about my fieldwork and student teaching for the rest of my senior year of college. This semester, I will be in my third consecutive semester of fieldwork. In the past, I worked half-day once a week in a kindergarten classroom, and then for two hours once a week in an after-school program with fourth grade students. Beginning next week, I’ll now be working one full day a week with a sixth grade English teacher.

Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today was my grandfather’s birthday. I have written about my grandpa before, and mentioned that he passed away when I was just five years old. My grandpa is still a huge influence in my life, and I always stop to think about what he would say to me in big life decisions if he were here. Today is a special day that my mom and I bond over each year, and a time to remember what a special man that my grandpa was. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
As some of you may have noticed, I recently changed the subject line of what my blog is about. While it used to say, “Thoughts of the Only Bio Kid in a Foster Family,” it now says, “The Only Bio Kid in a Foster Family: Thoughts About Family, Foster Care, Adoption, & Life on the Road to Becoming a Teacher and Author.” Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I have finally gotten over my horrible case of writer’s block and finished chapter three of my first novel! I don’t know what happened, but inspiration suddenly struck, and within a matter of a couple of hours, I had finished chapter three and started chapter four. I have also finished doing a simple outline for myself, consisting of chapter titles and a brief synopsis of what should be happening in each chapter. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, I thought I’d share a silly tradition we have in our family. We have Chinese Food Fridays in our house. Every week on Friday, we get Chinese food for dinner from our favorite place in town. We get the same food almost every week, because we all have our favorite dishes. We get a few different things and then everyone shares the meals. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Well yesterday was the start to a new school year for four of my siblings. It was a pretty big day, as three of them were starting in a new school. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, I wanted to share a quote that I felt meant a lot in the context of foster care. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today I am suffering from a bad case of writer’s block. Okay, well not just today; it’s been happening for almost the entire summer. I wrote about my book the other day, and I’m very pleased with how it’s coming along, but sometimes I wish I could get more done. While I try to work on my book a little bit each day, I haven’t gotten a lot done recently. I feel like I have had a very bad case of writer’s block, and I can’t seem to figure out how to get through the end of chapter three. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Happy September everyone! It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and fall is just around the corner. Today also happens to be Labor Day, so I’m sure that there are lots of people barbecuing and enjoying time with family and friends today. |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
