I was talking to my mom last night, somewhat about this blog, somewhat about memories of our experience, and somewhat about our family friends who have started doing foster care. I love when we are able to sit and talk together, even if we need to wait until late at night when all of the kids have fallen asleep. I was especially thankful for the time we got to talk together last night, because yet again, one of my little sisters was up sick. At least this sister, unlike her twin a few weeks ago, was able to throw up in a bucket, instead of all over my mom… (did I forget to mention that story?? Yeah, that was fun. Calm cries of “someone come help” coming from my mom while everyone else was in a different room, and when we all got out there, she was holding my little sister who was just a little fountain of joy all over my mom. As lovely as it was that we could all work together as a team and help the two of them out though, I was thrilled that we weren’t going through that again last night!)

Welcome back to Taylor Talks.
I remember this one time when I had to say good bye to a foster sibling, and it was a little different than other farewells I had made in the past. I was in fifth grade, and we had a baby staying with us, maybe a few months old. He hadn’t been with us for an extremely long time, and was going to be living with a family member after leaving our home, if I remember correctly. Even though he hadn’t been with us for a very long time, I was still pretty attached to my baby brother. It’s hard not to fall in love with a little baby. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I’ve been talking about my siblings’ adoptions lately, and I thought I’d stick with that subject a while longer. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Tonight, I thought I would talk a little about the first adoption I ever experienced. In the future, I’ll definitely discuss it more, but I just wanted to reminisce about the part where we sat with the judge that day. It was the second day of my third grade year, and I missed school that day. My brother was in first grade, and he too missed school. Our dad took the day off from work, which was extremely rare. We knew it was a big deal. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
The other day, I was writing about where children go when they leave our home. I mentioned that one of my foster siblings unfortunately had to go to another foster home after she lived with us. That was the only case in which this happened; everyone else was either adopted or went home after they stayed here. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
A few days ago, it was my sister’s birthday. Well, the first year that she lived with us, we didn’t celebrate her birthday that day. We were given the wrong information from DSS, and we celebrated her birthday a few days later than we should have. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I know, you’re probably all sick of my Broadway talk after my post from yesterday, but I just have to talk about something else Broadway related… Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Yesterday, I wrote about the special surprise that my sister and I are getting for our birthdays, a trip to see Aladdin on Broadway. We do live in New York State, so trips to Broadway aren’t extremely rare for us, but we have been wanting to see Aladdin since before it opened. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Yesterday, I wrote about the rapid speed in which sickness runs through my entire family when anyone gets sick. Today, I thought that I would tie that topic into an experience that our family had with a foster child just under two years ago. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, my brother, sister, and I went to the local library, while my mom took my other sisters out for a haircut. I worked at the library throughout high school, and only left when I went away to college. I love going back to visit, but it’s more difficult because our library is no longer three minutes from my house. The historic building that the library was housed in was severely damaged in Hurricane Irene back in 2011. Due to flooding and mold, the library was forced to move out of the building and take temporary placement in another building on the other side of town. It’s still only about ten minutes away from my house, but I don’t ever have a reason to go in that direction on a regular basis. |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
