Life as a Writer, Disney World Cast Member, and
Big Sister through Foster Care & Adoption
Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
This weekend was exactly what the doctor ordered... a visit from my mom's best friend!
So if you don't know, my mom's best friend is my best friend's mom... it is the perfect set-up because the four of us used to be able to do everything together. Our favorite thing to do together was go to Broadway, which is one of the things I miss most about New York, but since we lived two minutes apart, we all used to see each other all of the time.
My mom and I haven't seen our best friends since we moved almost two years ago. However, my best friend's sister and her husband recently stopped by for a visit. They were down here looking around because they were talking about moving down here soon.
Well skip forward to this weekend, and they're already moving down because they'll be staying with family until they get a place of their own. My best friend's brother-in-law came down last weekend, so his sister was going to drive down this weekend on her own. Instead, her mom came with her to help out, so she was able to come by for a visit!
My mom and her best friend were so happy to see each other... it was incredibly sweet! She actually stayed at our house all weekend so they could stay up all night talking and then resume conversation first thing in the morning. I think they both feel a whole lot better now that they were able to hug each other.
Unfortunately, I think that I became a little moody yesterday. I couldn't help it; seeing my mom so happy made me a little sad because I miss my best friend too. The fact that my best friend's mom was here and not him was hard to swallow. I did absolutely love having his mom here though... it was great to see her and to have a little bit of home here for a while.
After being here all weekend, we brought my mom's BFF to the airport this afternoon. They were so upset when they had to say good-bye to each other. It'll be alright though... they're already planning another visit for the Fall! I just hope that I can get my best friend to save up some money and come down as well!

My family has been doing foster care since I was three years old. I'm the only biological child in my family, though I now have five permanent siblings. Having nineteen siblings over the course of my lifetime has been an incredible experience, and I'm hoping that by sharing some of the ups and downs of being the only bio kid in a foster family, other foster families or people looking into doing foster care will be able to learn a bit of what life can be like. I also like to share what life is like on my journey to becoming a published author, as well as where my schooling and career choice are taking me.
