Taylor Talks began on July 29, 2014 as a way for me to discuss foster care. I had been thinking about the fact that I was the only person I knew who was part of a foster family. I have five siblings who were adopted through foster care, and I've had nineteen foster siblings in total; weren't there any other families like mine?
Before starting Taylor Talks, I looked online to see if there were any websites where I could talk to other biological siblings who were part of a foster family. I couldn't find anything like what I was looking for. I just wanted to be able to connect with someone else who was in my position, but I couldn't find any websites or chat rooms to do so. I decided that I should create a place where I could discuss foster care, and hopefully members of other foster families would eventually find me in the cyber world. As an aspiring author, I also thought that writing a blog would help me with my craft. It would give me a reason to write, give me something to do beyond homework or watching television. When I suffered from writer's block while working on my novel, I thought that I'd be able to turn to this blog and write about something I really knew instead. I never expected to write daily blog posts for two years, or that I would eventually have more than 150,000 page views, or more than 20,000 daily visitors to the site, over the course of those two years. |

Taylor Talks has changed from what it was intended to be at the beginning; I no longer blog solely about foster care or adoption, but the theme of family is certainly present throughout all of my writing. I have finished a novel, published two children's books, and am on the road to accomplishing much more in my writing endeavors. I've even graduated college, moved to a new state, started a new job, and so much more. I stopped blogging for a couple of years, but I missed it and couldn't wait to start up again. My life has changed incredibly since starting Taylor Talks on July 29, 2014 and I can't wait to see what the future holds.
