Life as a Writer, Disney World Cast Member, and
Big Sister through Foster Care & Adoption
Welcome to Taylor Talks! My name is Taylor Faith Krigsman, and I'm very excited to be starting this new blog.
The most exciting and most important part of my life is my family. The core members of my family are my mom and dad, my eighteen-year-old brother, my fifteen-year-old sister, my eleven-year-old brother, and my four-year-old twin sisters. We also have two dogs and a cat. Talk about a full house! Now picture all of these people and animals in a relatively small, one-story house, with the use of only one bathroom (long story... we've had construction going on in our house for a while); yeah, it can be pretty crazy around here! The best part about my family is much bigger than the eight people that live in my house; I've actually had nineteen siblings altogether! Yes, that's right, nineteen siblings! My parents started doing foster care when I was just three years old. I went from being an only child to suddenly sharing my house, my toys, and my parents with an overabundance of children. Of course, everyone has not lived with us at the same time; that would just be insanity. But over the past seventeen years, my parents and I have been lucky enough to share our lives with some amazing children, and I hope to share my experiences through this blog.
So now why have I chosen to begin blogging? What do I hope to accomplish? Well for starters, I'm looking forward to reliving old memories as I write about them, and I think it will be good to have a goal of writing at least once a week (hopefully more!). I usually try to set a goal for myself of writing a little bit everyday, but with classes and life always getting in the way, I think I need an actual project to force me into writing more often. But I have another hope for this blog as well... I know that I'm not the only biological child who has grown up with foster siblings and adopted siblings. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine (who's eighteen) has parents who are going through the process of becoming certified to do foster care right now. We've had a few discussions about how it feels to welcome new kids into your home, and some of the experiences that I've had in the past with the foster care system. I would love to be able to share these experiences with other people who are either already the bio kid in a foster family, or are just beginning the journey, or even parents who have younger children and would like to hear about another bio kid's experiences. Though I don't quite know how to share this blog with the world just yet, I'm hoping that I'll be able to spread the word and share my thoughts and feelings with anyone who is interested in reading them.
If anyone has stuck with me through this first blog post, I'd like to thank you for learning more about me and the direction I want to take this blog in. I look forward to writing much more in the future, and sharing the thoughts of the bio kid in a foster family! I'd greatly appreciate it if you would share this blog with friends and family through your favorite social media sites. If you're sharing on Twitter, don't forget to tag me (@TayTayK02) and use the hashtag #TaylorTalks.
My family has been doing foster care since I was three years old. I'm the only biological child in my family, though I now have five permanent siblings. Having nineteen siblings over the course of my lifetime has been an incredible experience, and I'm hoping that by sharing some of the ups and downs of being the only bio kid in a foster family, other foster families or people looking into doing foster care will be able to learn a bit of what life can be like. I also like to share what life is like on my journey to becoming a published author, as well as where my schooling and career choice are taking me.
