Today was a day to remember in more ways than one...
Today was also a significant day for my writing. I believe that my grandpa would have been proud of me. For the first time, I let someone outside of my immediate family read my Young Adult novel.
I have been working on this novel for years. I started it in my junior year of college, in 2014. I know, I told you... years!! I always loved it, but something seemed to be missing every time that I revised it. This time, however, something was different.
This time, after I did a complete overhaul of the manuscript, I felt like this was it. I felt like this was the book that I wanted to write, that everything had suddenly come together. I was ready to share it.
It just kind of worked out that a family friend had offered to read the book, saying that she could be a new eye to look it over if I wanted her to do so. Well, I took her up on the offer and sent her the book this afternoon. It was a huge milestone for me because I've been so protective of this baby for so long... I haven't written much about it and most people don't even know what it's about because I didn't want anything to ruin my chances of getting it published.
By the end of the night, I had received feedback on the book with just two small things that needed to be fixed (one of which was just a typo that I had missed). It was great to have an outside perspective on the book, and it honestly felt amazing to have someone outside of the family read this novel that I have poured my heart into over the past six years.
I can't wait to take the next step and try to get this novel published!
Thanks for reading!
