Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I would like to begin tonight's post with a little shout-out to a reader, Sierra. Hello Sierra, and thanks for reading! Sierra commented on yesterday's post to let me know that she had found my blog and read through every single post from beginning to most recent. It was incredible to hear from her, and it made me feel really good to know that she appreciated my blog. She said that my blog was really helpful for her to read, because her family is beginning the process to become a licensed foster family, and I thought that it was great that I could provide some useful information for her to read. I'm also really impressed that she went all the way back to the beginning when she found Taylor Talks and read every single post! Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
The other day, I happened to be talking about foster care with the teacher who I'm paired with for student teaching. The topic of money came up; how everyone thinks that foster parents get paid so much to take in foster children. I thought that might be a good topic to cover here as well. Today I was able to tape the first of my three lessons, and I was really excited to get through this first day. The kids did pretty well (aside from the first three times I had to start and stop filming because they all came down with a case of the giggles!) and I think the lesson went well overall. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Yesterday, I said that as part of my student teaching, I would be videotaping myself as I taught lessons for three days beginning this afternoon. Well, as anyone who has been around children can attest to, things don't always go according to plan when you're waiting on kids to finish work. We took so long to finish a math lesson that they were having trouble understanding that I never had time to do my extra lesson and videotape today. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Tonight I'm preparing for one of the most important parts of student teaching: videotaping myself teach. Starting tomorrow, I'll be taping myself teach three days in a row. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
If anyone read my post from yesterday, you may have noticed that my mom commented on what I wrote about respite care. She took some time to clarify what I was writing about so that everyone reading the post would fully understand respite care. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I want to talk about something called "respite care" and how it differs from foster care. My mom and I happened to be talking about this just a few minutes ago, and I thought that it would be helpful to write about here. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
As I've posted before, I'm minoring in Deaf Studies in college. I've been fortunate enough to take some great classes about Deaf Culture and learn a lot of sign language over the course of my college career. However, I leaned some sign language long before I ever stepped into a college classroom. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Tonight's post will be brief because I'm exhausted. I have no other excuse, just that I need sleep and can't think. On the bright side, though, a two hour delay was already called for tomorrow morning due to the freezing temperatures or something, so at least I don't have to get up at 6:30am! |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
