Happy 4th of July! It was our first Independence Day in Florida, and we enjoyed a wonderful day home as a family.
My dad bar-be-qued a great meal for us, complete with steak, roasted potatoes, and corn on the cob. It was absolutely delicious! I always enjoy a nice bar-be-que, especially when my dad makes corn for us. He's great with the grill and always makes the best meals for us.
After dinner, I surprised my sisters and brother with some red, white, and blue glow necklaces (and wands for the twins) to help them celebrate, since we weren't going out anywhere tonight. The girls were especially excited and played with their treasures until bedtime.
We ended up being able to see some fireworks from our lanai, which was pretty great. We all sat out there together and enjoyed the view... even the dogs sat out with us, and they weren't even freaked out by the noise. It was a great way to end the day.
Of course, we couldn't let July 4th pass without remembering our grandmother, who passed away on this day when my dad was just in his early twenties. Though we never got to meet her, we are all thankful for the stories that my dad tells us about her. My dad lights a candle for his mom each year on this day to honor her, as is the tradition in his religion. It's a beautiful way to keep her memory alive.
I hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Independence Day!
