Today is a very important day in American history, September 11th. Thirteen years ago, our country was changed forever when the Twin Towers were attacked in New York City. I was only in third grade when it happened.

Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today was my grandfather’s birthday. I have written about my grandpa before, and mentioned that he passed away when I was just five years old. My grandpa is still a huge influence in my life, and I always stop to think about what he would say to me in big life decisions if he were here. Today is a special day that my mom and I bond over each year, and a time to remember what a special man that my grandpa was. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
This week, I’ve been staying with my former roommate for a mini-vacation. Tonight, we decided we would take a drive and go to the movies. We’re going to see the new movie, “If I Stay,” based on the book of the same name by Gayle Forman. I remember reading the book about a month after I turned sixteen. I had taken my permit test on my birthday, and had only been driving for that short amount of time before I read this incredible book about a family impacted by a car accident. It really shook me. As you can imagine, the arrival of a new child is a very big deal in any family. Whether a baby is born into the family or adopted, or they arrive in the family when they are a little older, it is always exciting to meet a new family member. For all of the years that my family has been doing foster care, I have always been home when I have gotten a new little brother or sister. From the phone call asking if we can take in a child, to the time of their arrival, I have always been present for the newest addition to the family. That is, until this year. The other day, I wrote about my only memory of the day I became a big sister for the first time. Today, I thought I would talk about the part that I do remember; the children who made me a big sister. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
One of the most important people in my life was my grandpa. He died when I was five years old, but his influence still guides me to this day. He was an incredible man, who absolutely lived each day to the fullest. My mom often says that my cousins and I were his pride and joy. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, I wanted to write about the very beginning, back when I was three years old and I became a big sister for the very first time. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Tonight I thought I would talk about why we started doing foster care seventeen years ago… Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today is a very special day in my family… a birthday! In honor of this special day, I thought I would talk a little about birthdays for foster children, and the experiences that we’ve had in our house. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
So far, I haven’t told anyone in my family that I’ve started this blog… I’m sure I’ll tell them soon enough (especially my mom because we’re very tight), but I want to see where I can take this before I let them in on my little project. So today I’d like to share a memory with whoever may be reading this. I think it’s important to talk about all of the different kids you can meet when you constantly have new siblings coming into your home. If your family is just starting to do foster care, you shouldn’t be picturing the perfect infant or the perfect first grader coming into your home. No one is perfect, so why should you expect this new child to be? The truth is that while you will quickly realize that you’ll be able to love all of the children that come into your home, a lot of the children do come to you with some problems. These kids were just ripped away from the only lives they knew, so of course there are going to be some issues. |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
