With all of the unpacking we've been doing since moving into our new house, we sometimes come across old stuff that brings back memories. Today, my mom was going through a ton of old paperwork, and she happened to find some papers related to foster care. One paper in particular caught my attention and reminded me of a foster sister who once lived with us.

Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
On the foster family pages that I'm part of on Facebook, I often see posts from people who are either interested in doing foster care, or are going through the process to start their journey. They want to know about other people's experiences, and about what they can expect as they become a foster family. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Tonight, I thought that I'd keep it short with a story of a short-term placement that we had when I was a little girl. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
We're having a much more low-key night compared to last night's craziness... unless you count Twin A's sudden bout of the giggles after we went out to dinner. That was, as Twin B has taken to saying, a "bit" silly. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Last week, or maybe the week prior (who can keep track of the days when it's summertime?), my mom received a question that I don't think any of us have ever received before. By the end of that day, it had probably slipped my mind and I found other things to talk about, but I was reminded about the conversation today and I wanted to address it. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
We're still watching home movies at our house, which is kind of a blessing in disguise. It's annoying that this is the only nighttime entertainment we have, since we still don't have cable, but it has really been so nice to relive all these old memories. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
We have Internet! Ha ha ha no, we don't. Twice now something has gotten screwed up and we still have not gotten TV, Internet, or phone hooked up. Now we're told that Tuesday everything will be set up, so fingers are crossed that it pulls through this time. In the meantime, I still have Facebook access from my iPad, and today I saw a post that sparked an idea for today's blog post. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
While I'm sure my mom is going to come ask me why I'm sitting and not doing anything at any moment, I'm taking this opportunity to ignore work and blog. I mean, honestly, why do we have so much stuff?! It's out of control, and the storage pods aren't even being delivered until tomorrow! Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I thought that I would share another story about a specific placement that we've had in our home. My foster sister was just a few days old when she came to us; I was about six or seven. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Have you ever moved before? This is the first time that my family has ever moved, and I never realized how much is involved with the process prior to going through it now. |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
