The other day, I wrote about how I was discussing foster care with a woman who takes sign language lessons from me. I was just thinking about that discussion, and thought I would share some of the information that I had given her.

Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, I surprisingly ended up having the opportunity to talk about foster care for quite a while! I wasn't expecting it, because it happened at the sign language class I was teaching. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Earlier this month, I wrote about getting back in touch with a former foster sister. For some reason, I found myself thinking about this today. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
How would you explain foster care to a young child? I was only three when we started taking in children, and there was no way that my parents were telling a three-year-old about the harsh realities of why children are placed into foster care. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Here we are, Sunday night, and I'm already wishing it was the weekend again.... we're all so exhausted in my house because my little sisters wake up before sunrise each day. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
People always ask for advice when they are at the beginning of their foster care journey. They want to know what to expect from people who have been through it already. I saw a post on one of the Facebook pages that I'm on today that asked for some advice as the woman was going through the final stage of becoming a licensed foster parent. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Yesterday, I wrote about how much work caseworkers do with each foster child's case. We've dealt with many caseworkers over the course of our time as a foster family. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
I've been spending a lot of time lately writing about my daily life and discussing matters that don't have much to do with foster care. As you know, I moved to Florida two months ago, and I feel like this blog has become a way for me to keep loved ones back in New York informed about what's happening in our lives. That being said, I want to take some time to focus on a topic related to foster care tonight. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
The other night, I talked about the fact that I had found one of my former foster sisters online and sent her a message. Well quite to my surprise, I heard back from her yesterday. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
"Isn't it hard to say good-bye?" That's one of the first questions I always receive when people find out that my family does foster care. "Do you ever keep in touch with your foster siblings?" That's one of the next questions that I am always asked. |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well.
