Today was one of the most chaotic, insane, make-your-head-spin kind of work days I've ever had, but at least it was one of those days at Disney!
Anyway, what I actually wanted to talk about was the work that I'm doing for my book. I've been doing a lot of research as far as looking for agents to whom I can send my book. It's difficult to find agents that you think will really connect with your story. I've been compiling a list since I first started writing my novel, and have since added to, and subtracted from, that list based on how the novel turned out.
Over the past few days, I've really made a strong effort to research agents and find specific reasons why I believe my book would resonate with them. I have a ton of websites saved to my computer with information on the agents to whom I will be writing, and now I just need a bit of free time so that I can actually sit down and write to them.
Going into this whole writing business, I knew that writing my novel would only be the start of the process. Finding an agent and actually getting published is a whole process within itself. Yes, it's a lot of work, and yes, I'm not going to find success overnight. But the more effort I put into this process now, the better the outcome will be. I don't just want to write to any agent who represents Young Adult fiction; I want to write to the agents who are looking for exactly what I have to offer.
I think that on my next day off from work, I'm going to shut myself in my room for a while and start writing to agents. Sleep and/or swimming can wait; I have work to do.
