Tonight, I held my very first sign language class! It was so exciting to bring together my love of teaching and American Sign Language to begin giving lessons.

Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
On nights like tonight, when I'm really craving a nice soft-serve ice cream, I'm kind of homesick for my hometown. That doesn't mean that I'm not happy here though... quite the opposite. I'm really enjoying life down here so far, and to make myself feel better about not having great ice cream (come on, it's Florida...where's it all hiding?), I thought I would make a list of the things that I love about Florida life so far. If you want to become a foster parent, you have to go through an application process. You can almost think of it like a job application in a way, because you need to prove that you're the right person for the job of caring for a foster child. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
When a foster child is first placed in a new home, there is a period of adjustment in which the child becomes used to the new house, new family, and new lifestyle. Everyone's adjustment period is different, but no matter how long it lasts, each child has to adjust to life in a new foster home. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today is Friday, the end of the school week... oh man, we're going to have to start saying that around here soon enough. Only a few more weeks until the summer is over! The move took up so much of the summer this year, but the good news about moving to Florida is that it'll still feel like summer long after school has started! Today also marks three weeks since we moved into our new house, which seems insane! I can't believe how time has flown by since we arrived here! With all that's been going on over the past few weeks, I've actually skipped a couple of Foster Parent Fridays. With things somewhat more relaxed around here, I wanted to feature another interview tonight, this time from a foster parent who wishes to remain anonymous. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Last week, or maybe the week prior (who can keep track of the days when it's summertime?), my mom received a question that I don't think any of us have ever received before. By the end of that day, it had probably slipped my mind and I found other things to talk about, but I was reminded about the conversation today and I wanted to address it. I'm sure that my mom, sister, and I were the only ones who remembered this little fact, but during the drive down to Florida, I wrote that I had lost an earring sometime during a stop in a hotel. It was the only thing that we lost during the move, which was great when you thought about it like that, but I was so upset to lose it. Well guess what? Today, it showed up again! It was in my mom's emergency bag all along! We have no idea how it got there (or when), but she suddenly found it when she went to get something out of the bag this morning. I was so excited... we didn't lose a single thing on the entire drive down here! Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Today, I saw a post on one of the foster family pages of which I am a member, and it got me thinking about the way foster children usually arrive at a new foster home. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
Have you ever moved? I don't know about moving within a state, but when you move across state lines like we did, there's a lot that you need to take care of when you're getting settled. Welcome back to Taylor Talks!
What an adventure we had today! In my family, whenever we go on a car trip and don't know exactly where we're going, we call it an adventure. Sometimes, my mom forgets to fill up on gas before we set out, and we don't know how far the car will make it, so it's even more of an adventure. We've had many of these little adventures, but nothing compared to what we experienced today! |
AboutMy family started doing foster care when I was three years old. We took in nineteen children over the course of eighteen years, with our last placement leaving in December 2014. I'm the only biological child in my family, though my parents adopted five of my siblings.
I love to share my perspective on the foster care system and share how my unique upbringing shaped my life. I'm also a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and lover of all things Disney! My career allows me the opportunity to find a little bit of Magic in life every day. I enjoy sharing my journey as a writer as well. Find my children's books on Amazon and keep following my blog for updates on future books that I'll be releasing! Archives
